Dog rescue – or Catch 22 ☺

Some dogs just love to be rescued so much so, they go for it twice......

Jane, Vice President of CAS, asked us to pick up a little puppy that had been rescued after being thrown from a car in the Puente Don Manuel area. She needed to be transported to her new home in The Netherlands.
Lily was a 3 month old puppy of less than 3 kilos.
At the car park in the airport, she decided she prefered to stay in Spain so, with some Houdini moves, she freed herself from her collar! We were left with only the empty collar and its leash!
I tried to catch her by running the fastest 100m ever (I must have qualified for the Olympics), but it was no good! After a few hours of searching in the car park and the surrounding area, we had to give up and went back to Cómpeta. I reported to Jane, who knew exactly what to do ! She took a deep breath and then.... burst into tears !

Almost back home, my phone rang and the Spanish employees from the car park called to say they had found a dog. I returned to the airport (Sorry Guardia Civil, but I promise that next time I will obey the speed limit). There the guys waved at me when they saw me and showed me where Lily was hiding. She was in the corner of the car park, under a car, completely stressed and not knowing what to do next.
I put my chest & tummy on the floor and stretched my hand but, of course, Lily did not trust it after all that had happened to her that morning. I spent 10-15 minutes talking, still on the floor. She came closer to sniff my fingers and, when she moved a little closer, I was able to catch her and put her in her cage.
Curiously enough, the Spanish guy asked me to come with him to their office.
Did they want to give me a ticket for letting a dog loose in their car park?
No, they all wanted to see the dog that was rescued!

Needless to say, Lily missed her flight. She is now safely back with Jane (more tears!) sporting a combination collar and harness with matching lead..... and she is booked to fly to The Netherlands within a couple of weeks.

Rufus Maximillian Arrives in The Netherlands

This dog was abandoned and wandered around the Andalucian village of Cómpeta until a wonderful English woman, Jean, took him in and named him Rufus.
Then he grew..... and grew.......
Then two equally wonderful Dutch people took him into their home, renamed him Max and taught him Dutch !
Friday 22nd August saw him fly with Brigitta from Málaga airport to The Netherlands where he met his new Momma!
Needless to say......human tears on both sides ......just treats and a drink of water on the canine side.
Another victory for the liaison between CAS & HzH

 

 

 

 

Another Three Dogs to The Netherlands

Spotty Missy, sleek Poppy and chunky Langer arrived in Dusseldorf Saturday 12th July.
Each had spent time with one of the CAS foster families and was ready for a permanent home.
Smiles, hugs and wagging tails all round.

 

 

 

 

ANOTHER FIVE go the The Netherlands

On 16th May, Gypsy and Leo went; 26th May Tarzan (English Bulldog) flew and today, 27th May, we sent Beauty and Honey to their new Dutch homes.
Happy people ! Happy Dogs !

The Famous Five go to The Netherlands !

Tuesday, April 22nd saw Amber & her sister Molly plus little Don, Pepper and Dusty fly from Málaga airport to a new life with their new families.
How happy can dogs and people get !!?

Three More Girls for The Netherlands

On Sunday, 16th March, Jan Willem and his 2 sons flew to Málaga airport, spent a few hours in the city then flew back home with THREE dogs.
Their own dog - lovely LENKA - was actually a surprise Valentine's Day "gift" from his wife ! Now THERE's a Good Idea.

LUNA was met and cuddled by her new owner and MINA was collected by our HzH Co-ordinator, Mona, who will look after her until her new owner is ready.

This was SUCH a joyous day and brought the number of CAS dogs homed by HzH to 51

AND......there are many more dogs already adopted and waiting to take that exciting Journey to Happiness!
